Balancing the Ledger
I love you when I love myself
Back and forth we go
in the sea-breeze of reality
rocking our little boat
side to side, loud then quiet
Funny how different faces
can appear in a single
human being, but we keep
on rowing come what may
same season whether
tsunami or a single drop
of rain. The key is to
keep showing up
I say it often enough while
trying not to preach — it’s
not all about feelings though
you really mean emotion
the push-pull of reaction
one place down from
love’s smoothness, which is not
sporadic but consistent
lives in the heart not this
fear-gut that taught us all
what love is not. Just stand
firm, don’t go overboard
I found this — I love you when
I love myself, the same dynamic
in the dark days of loathing
on the other side of the ledger
