Bees — Lovers to Imitate

Nature’s way offers us a path forward

A slight wind, a leaf falls —
& in the garden, the trellis
trails yellow blooms and bees
— the great lovers of this world —
follow the scent of flowers.
Time shunts life forward
while my own falls back
like one of two clocks
in spring and autumn.
Chest pains surface as
those who went before
in a lineage defined by pain —
symptoms as herald, I know —
giving time to prepare —
one small mercy we all share.
I look up to wash my eyes
in rain —
throw myself on nature
old habits of prayer.
