Did I Really have to Get Up?

A short homage to a familiar feeling

I want the sun but not the
light spit of rain
on open toes
or the neighbour’s hacking cough
or strangers grinding
concrete not far off
or muffled voices of
telephone calls upstairs
or the slip of sandals
on wet linoleum floors.
I am no fan of much
this morning but I remember
the day is young
though I am not.
