Swan Song, the Love of Moon & Sun

Photo by Robert Woeger on Unsplash

You like to speak of past
& future yet I watch you
glaze over, disappear
down a long & hazy funnel — lost
& out of sorts. I could choose
to follow the ripples.
We could lap together like
two forever swans but I will keep my wings
from the waters & let you drown alone.
Some cite cruelty but I say
divine love is ruthless & impersonal
waiting only to carry you home.
This sinking happens to us all
until we know better —
when the knower herself emerges
& drowning is a language only
for those willing to give everything
in the cause of moon & sun —
we might say original swans.
