What is it about the world that’s mad?

I feel the hooves of history
galloping across this sharp
& sterile night —
& the imminent clash
of past & present
in a blistering, moment.
The firebirds we call comets
surely streak purposefully
through the sky.
What is it they want? I wonder.
What is it any of us want?
I like to think it’s a bit of peace
but again & again I see
the world has other plans.
Perhaps, the firebird leaves…
